No. If you take a life, you get to sit in a small dark room for 23,5 out of 24 hours of each day for the rest of your life. You will not be able to kill yourself, you will have to endure the absolute solitude. (EDIT: This is pretty much only for premeditated stuff, if you ask me)
But what does "premeditated" mean? If I grab a gun, walk across the street and dispatch my neighbor for no apparent reason, was that premeditated? I had to think about it beforehand, from the point of picking up the gun. How about a poker game, where one of the players gets pissed off and kills one of the others for apparently cheating? At some point, the killer had to decide to do it. Given no personal threat at hand, there is a decision point. Right up to the consummation of the act, the killer has the opportunity to decide not to end a life. Be it a month ago, working up an elaborate plan, 5 minutes beforehand, or in the instant the finger squeezes the trigger, premeditation accompanies any deliberate murder. If it is not an accident, it is premeditated, to what extent that is makes little/no difference.
Despite what you, I, or a victim's family might want, incarceration is not punishment. Incarceration is the protection of the public.
Because criminal punishment is simply ineffective. From a perspective of behavioral science, negative reinforcement only works if it is directly and irrevocably linked directly to the action. When the dynamic involves avoiding being caught rather than avoiding the action itself, the relationship between action and consequence breaks down, rendering punishment useless at best. As a result, the only real punishment factor in our justice system is retribution, which I think is a net negative.
Prisons, therefore, have no business trying to mete out punishment by making convicts miserable. It serves no useful purpose and I believe is actually counterproductive in that it breeds resentment toward society in the heart of the prisoner. Everything we do to make the prisoner (who may be released at some point) miserable reduces the likelihood that they can successfully rejoin society. The more problematic ex-cons are, the more money we waste on the system.
Now, I also believe that there are individuals who are wholly incapable of being rehabilitated. Some will simply have to spend their lives behind bars because they are too unstable. In some cases, psychiatric treatment might help, but supervision would be called for. If a fraction of the population can realistically be expected to remain confined for life, we could at least consider setting up facilities in which they would be able to do enough work to make up for their expense. The justice system desperately needs to address its impracticalities.

a shame most of the screen is taken up by the controls. They could've done a better job minimizing those in the UI to provide more screen for the game content.

In the U.S. complaint, Samsung accuses Apple of violating patents that "relate to fundamental innovations that increase mobile device reliability, efficiency, and quality, and improve user interface in mobile handsets and other products.
LOL
Can that be any more VAGUE?! They might as well be suing for the fact that samsung made phones before apple.
Anyone who thinks Apple's reason to sue was bad should just look at that!

I really like the concept HP has done with their up coming slate/Pre integration. Being able to respond to a text while on my iPad would be awesome. Anyone hear of an app that can do this? If not lets get one going :)

What, did Apple think that Verizon customers would warmly welcome someone who shunned them for 4 years? The customer is most important, shouldn'thave signed that exclusive contract with AT&T... relly stunted their growth in the CDMA market, people move on too...
But real Apple people don't move on. They wait. They aren't normal consumers.

Killing hookers??
Well given your other examples perhaps that just about describes the probable immaturity of an 18 old. Enough said in that case.
I just don't understand this whole "he's 18 and and adult" routine. He may be 18 in the eyes of the law, but with no real life experience behind him I hardly think he can be considered mature enough to make adult decisions. What's with this whole "hey presto the law says your an adult so you your all grow up now" ??
So you'd rather his folks make all the big decisions for him and never let him become that adult?
Parents should be slowly divesting themselves of big, life decisions to their children as they grow. Yes, you can set rules of the house but you can't actually actively prevent him from doing something.

Here's mine, I modified a fairly plain wallpaper picture I found.

Here's the background if you want it. Sorry, I had to up the jpeg compression quite a bit to make it small enough to upload. Oh you also have to strech to fill it as it's a weird proportion, but there's plenty of pixels so you aren't stretching.

4.3.1 is terrible on the 4th gen iPod touches. Home screen animations lag and more often than not skip totally. battery life is down, apps from the multitasking tray aren't usable upon switching to them for a few seconds - it's just terrible.
Thankfully, I had been jailbroken so I'm back on 4.2.1.

IMO yes, esp. copper ones.
I'll look into copper ones. Most seem to be aluminium
I borrowed a faster Mac, and used that to install to its HDD, I think it mayve had more RAM, then dumped the HD in my trusty eMac and let it boot. It wouldnt boot on 64MB though... I tried that xD
Ah - I was wondering how you did it. Lateral thinking.....

For feature films and television these days, Final Cut is ABSOLUTELY the industry standard. Oh and in the 8 years I've lived in Hollywood, I never met one person in the industry who uses a Windows PC (maybe a writer or two).
For feature films? I call BS! Maybe for independent "features" and even that is debatable.

thanks for continuing to screw us 3gS owners over Apple...
My phone is on its last leg, dropping calls all of the time, have to charge it 3 times a day. If I had known this, I would have already bought a 4...
As someone with a Silver Grey ZHP, I say to you 'life is too short' to be frustrated over such matters. My iPhone 3g s died last week and I too resisted buying the iPhone 4 since I really was waiting for the iPhone 5. Well, I had my iPhone 4 for a week now and I love it. It is leaps and bounds over my 3g s. The Retina Display is drool-worthy (as drool worth as my '04 Silver Grey ZHP:)) and the improved phone signal is worth the upgrade. The iPhone 4 is a very capable phone that I believe I did get my money's worth (even as the iPhone 5 is schedule to arrive sometime within the next several months).
If you are that frustrated over waiting to buy the 'latest and greatest'-well there are bigger things to get upset and frustrated over (althought I must admit I do share your pain).
As some wrote earlier on this thread-I also believe that this 'spec race' will not last too long-software will become more prominent.

Homosexuality was accepted and practiced openly during the Roman Era...which is what most of us here draw roots as a "real civilization". It was when the Christians and Abrahamic religions took over that being gay started to be "outlawed". Prolly has to do a lot with the fact that the "kings" needed subjects to draw loyal warriors and peasants from to keep their land, etc...especially since major factions killed eachother all the time.
Nevertheless, what you are experiencing is the remnance of Christianity's "being fruitful and multiply" efforts. It may take a while for "new thought processes" to reach "the conservatives" out there, but it will get there as these religions start to have less and less control over people's behaviors and even start to die out as we all enter the modern world.
Much of what we believe in to "keep the land" in modern times involves more of a faith in "Capitalism" than faith in "God". And you are right that "gay couples can raise children" too these days with modern technology, but the underlying requirement as with any successful family, is your capitalistic faith and success in it (read: money). But I think that since the US takes much of the brunt of world military efforts, there will still be a need for a large sector of ppl who will sacrifice themselves to "go to heaven". It's no wonder that the USA, although most advanced of the Western world, has the most religious ppl. Which is why "Don't ask, don't tell" has persisted in the military for ages. But I think as we roboticize more warfare in the future, there won't be as much of a need to make religious kids willingly act as cannon fodder so the Military might be more open to gays. Afterall, an extra person in front of a joystick is just as good as an extra person in front of a cash register...regardless of sexual preference. ;)
Bisexuality was openly accepted. You do realize thatEurope's population is expected to fall catastrophically due to a low birth rate
Wow...just wow. So now you claim to speak for all of society back then? Unbelievable. And please, don't hold back on your feeling regarding us. You keep exposing yourself for what you truly are.
So what? What is your point?
Political harm to me is violence. Do cannot deny that you wish to withhold rights from us.
Sad, but true. Diplomacy should always be the first approach. But it doesn't always work. I've found out the hard way, believe me.
Do actually you care what people who are in your face have to say?
Have sex with someone of the opposite gender isn't exactly a homosexual thing, in-vitro fertilisation is immoral and the government can opt not to allow homosexuals adoption privilege.
violence: behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something.
ACT UP made some people glad for AIDS, "God's curse on sodomites". Treating people like crap doesn't exactly improve relations
